Preparations for winter

Posted by kevin

Four days left before my departure and I'm looking forwards to my winter in Canada. At the moment I'm feeling a number of things about the trip. Firstly I'm excited, as it's something I've wanted to do for a couple of years now. Secondly I'm nervous, because I've been ill with a virus that still hasn't cleared and I want to be fit and healthy right from day one. Finally, I'm dreading leaving Jennifer, even only initially for a few weeks.

This weekend saw a mini-Christmas with my family, and spending the weekend with them and with Jennifer confirmed how much I'll miss them all. I've got a cold today so that's not helping with mustering the energy required to get my mind in gear for the weekend.

The good thing is that when I arrive, there will be 4 metres of snow to ski on (a record pre-opening snowfall for Whistler Blackcomb) and I won't be instructing until mid December. When I arrive I have to first turn my work authorisation letter into a work visa, then get the key for my apartment, and subsequently check in with the ski school on Sunday.

Hopefully Sunday's visit to the ski school will allow me to get a lift pass to keep me on the mountain until training starts in a couple of weeks. Then the last formalities are the opening of the bank account and the application for a Canadian Social Insurance Number.

Right, back to bed now but packing is waiting for me tomorrow!
