Well Christmas has so far been spent with the family. Primarily for two reasons… firstly because I wouldn’t have it any other way, and secondly because I’m still recovering from last week’s cataract operation.
Anyway, it’s been a joy as always to spend Christmas in Farndon. This year has been made all the more special by the fact that Steve, Lia and Grace moved back to Munich this year and so Christmas gives Mum, Dad and myself a chance to catch up with them.
Grace has grown, even since September, when I last saw her. She’s now capable of saying important words like “Honda”, and has learnt cunning new tricks like opening doors by herself. One of the best ways of entertaining her is the high velocity back-ride. For more information, take a look at this video.
The Chester vs Wrexham match today has been postponed so in store for the next few days are: more chilling around the family home, the Macclesfield vs Chester match on Saturday, New Years Eve spent with the Uni gang, then a return to Swindon and an eye checkup in London.
Am struggling not to be allowed to do any biking at the moment but can’t wait until the New Year when I’ll be back on the bike, and more importantly, out to Canada for more skiing and ultimately ski instructor training.

Eye Operation 0
So the time finally came (rather earlier than expected!) for me to have my cataract (left in my eye from previous eye surgery) removed. I hadn’t realised how bad the sight had become until I went for a checkup in November and couldn’t read any of the letters on the eye chart. Now my eyesight is normally bad (because of permanent retinal damage) but I can at least normally read the top line of the letter chart with my bad eye!
Anyway, the operation went really well and seemed to make a decent improvement to the vision over medium to longer distances (because that’s the focus that the new prosthetic lens is targeted at). The eye is in quite a bloody mess at the moment but hopefully that’ll all calm down to leave my boyish-good-looks perfectly intact ;-)
I have a checkup in another week’s time, after which I hope I’ll be allowed out on the bike again. Until then it’s more mince pies, Christmas cake and trifle for me. Hard life!
