Brecons Winter Biking 0

Posted by kevin

Nick, Liz, Neil, Lou and myself headed off to the Brecons in South Wales this weekend for a couple of days of pre-Christmas biking. When we woke up on Saturday morning we were greeted by a couple of centimetres of snow. This didn’t stop us from heading up the hill on our bikes to ride The Gap. Climbing up there was fun, and I was delighted to see everyone make it down one of the most evil gullies around.

The descent was incredible; this was the first time that I’d been up there on the Tomac and it made easy work of the rock steps and boulders. Flew down the other side with a big smile on my face and I was soon joined by the rest of the gang.

After stopping for some lunch we found that we were all freezing (near-zero temperatures combined with heavy rain is not a good thing!) so we dropped Liz and Lou off at a pub (which was soon to close as it turned out) and we chaps headed off back to the cottage to get the cars. What a big effort all that was; remind me to do those routes again in the summer. Doing the Gap in June is definitely a preferable experience.

There are a bunch of photos on my photo site and there are some fun videos of the ride and the evening entertainment in the cottage here.

Thanks to the gang for making the weekend so much fun (despite the weather).

Yellowjackets and family 0

Steve promised me for my birthday that he’d take me to see the Yellowjackets at Ronnie Scott’s for my birthday. He didn’t disappoint and neither did the band. Wow what a great evening. One of the killer moments was watching the support band’s drummer (who himself was excellent) sit down to watch the Yellowjackets’ drummer, Marcus Baylor.

That was last night and after a long day working from Steve’s home, I spent the evening relaxing with him, Lia and Grace. Grace gets cuter by the day. I’ve included a bunch of new photos at my photo site and I’ve just uploaded a load of videos to this site. Take a look here for those.

Housewarming at Rog and Vs' New House 0

Just got back from a fun weekend including biking at Cannock Chase followed by a housewarming party hosted by Rog and V in Leicestershire.

The biking was a tad wet and muddy but there was potential in them there Chase Trails! Was good to get out bearing in mind it’s November. Should be doing some more biking in the coming weeks so watch this space (or just watch out for Tomac toting lunatics!). I think we managed to convert a couple more people to mountain biking so that’s always a good thing. All this despite Neil getting told off for menacing kids by not dismounting at the visitor centre… tut tut Neil!

The party was excellent fun and as always it was great to catch up with the Trentsiders from Nottingham Uni. Special thanks have to go to Rog and V for being such great hosts; I can’t remember eating that well at a party ever! The evening meal and cooked breakfast were both second to none. Maybe next time I’ll also join in when it’s Gin hour…
